Early Settlements in Upper Canada
A Journey in Time: 500 Years Ago
Learning Goal: We are learning how to use the inquiry process so that we can learn about Aboriginals and how they lived.
The Process:
1) Write an inquiry question (what do you want to find out?)
2) Locate sources (where are you going to look for information?)
3) Record what you find out in point form (try to put it in your own words instead of copying from the text/website)
4) Decide how to present your information in a short oral presentation
5) Practise for your presentation (make sure you share your information in a clear way)
Success Criteria (Social Studies):
· * I wrote a specific inquiry question
· * My information all relates to my topic (I answered my inquiry question)
· * I put the information I learned about my topic in my own words
· * I can explain how my “topic” is important to the daily life of Aboriginal people
* I made my presentation interesting by including a drawing, model, demonstration, skit, etc.
· * I used Social Studies vocabulary
Success Criteria (Oral Presentation):
· * I practiced my presentation (e.g., good flow, have a plan about what I am going to do/say/show)
· * I ‘told’ my information rather than reading directly from my page
· * I explained (talked about) my drawing, model, demonstration, skit, etc.
· * I answered questions about my topic from my teacher and peers
· * I used Social Studies vocabulary
· * I used a loud, clear voice
